Lt. Max Wagner monument Nantucket Original by Janet Francoeur. It is a monument dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant Max Wagner, who lost his life in the Spanish-American War. � The square and the monument were dedicated to his memory in 1932. The monument in the square is a repurposed drinking fountain that was anonymously donated to the town in 1885.The garden club keeps it planted. In March of 2020 it was knocked over in a car accident.
